Bemer Mat Review

PEMF mats, such as Bemer, have become a viral sensation across social media platforms and the blogosphere.

Yet, many consumers are still very unfamiliar with this innovative technology.

If you’ve seen the hashtags and wondered the what, how, and where of Bemer mats, then you’ve landed in the perfect place.

This review will take you from point A to Z in understating PEMF therapy, which is the technology that supports the Bemer mat products.

We will look at the waveform, frequency, and intensity for this brand of mat.

You’ll know the pricing and device variations.

Due diligence info, such as certifications and warranties will also be covered.

This review takes you through the differences between Bemer Pro mat and Classic mat products, which were formally known as just the Bemer 3000.

The brand reorganized to make the Pro model their star product, but they still offer a less expensive option in the Classic model. We let you know all the differences.

Who Is Bemer Group?

Bemer, officially known as Bemer Life Group, is one of the most established and well-known brands in the PEMF industry.

Bemer USA is a subsidiary of Bemer International AG.

The brand is spearheaded from their corporate headquarters in Liechtenstein, but their products are sold across the globe.

According to their website, the brand employs “thousands” of independent representatives from across the globe.

Bemer is an acronym for Bio Electro Magnetic Energy Regulation, and PEMF stands for pulsed electro magnetic field therapy.

This company has been serving consumers since the early 90s.

They have a solid reputation among both PEMF industry experts and consumers.

A large part of their popularity stems from their business model.

The company uses multi-level marketing (MLM) distributors, which is a model that transitions active consumers into brand-backed independent sales reps.

Bemer’s MLM Model

As a MLM, Bemer itself acts as both a producer and retailer, but they also act as a B2B and C2C agent by allowing their products to be sold by various third parties, including existing consumers.

New and used Bemer products can be found online through Bemer’s website; affiliate MLM distribution websites; big-box e-commerce websites, such as eBay; and consumer social media pages and blogs.

They can also be found in brick and mortar retail stores across the country.

Spas and gyms are also starting to carry Bemer mats as part of their fee-based consumer services and retail offerings.

As a note on sourcing a MLM Bemer vendor and selecting a payment method, it’s very important to consider your buyer protections.

Look for site security from any online retailer and the added layer of protection in paying through PayPal or Venmo.

Overview Of The Bemer Pro vs Bemer Classic

Like most duo products, the difference in the Bemer Pro, also called the B.Body Pro, and Classic, also called the B.Body Classic, is upscaling.

The Pro’s controller is more advanced, and you get more applicators and accessories.

Comparing the mats side by side, you’ll notice that the Pro is made of a different material, too.

It features Alcantara to offer stain protection and a more long-lasting product.

However, when it comes to PEMF, you’re getting the exact same size and weight product with the exact same PEMF therapy.

If red light therapy is on your device’s checklist, then you’ll want to go with the Pro model since the Classic model doesn’t come with the B.light red light therapy applicator.

What Is Bemer Therapy?

As the popularity and demand for PEMF devices continues to rapidly rise, the brand options are exploding.

Each brand has their own configurations and device components, which are often patented technology.

Of course, many brands also have their own targeted health benefits within their offered specs.

Bemer therapy, also called Bemer physical vascular therapy or Bemer micro circulation therapy, is a term used to describe the specific PEMF therapy offerings and configuration provided by the Bemer Group’s mat.

The configuration is targeted to vascular circulation improvement and pain relief.

What Does The Research Say About Bemer Therapy?

Bemer therapy has been used in several scientific studies, with some showing positive results and others showing inconclusive to ineffective results.

Of course, the independence, comprehensiveness, and objectives of each various study greatly differs, which is why it’s important to look at entire bodies of info verses one particular study.

PubMed actually collected such a body of info on PEMF, which included some related to Bemer therapy.

We gathered that Bemer’s patented waveform lacks scientific evidence to conclude that it’s any more effective than that of competing PEMF mat brands.

Bemer’s configuration is 10 Hz and 33 Hz and 0.035 – 0.35 Gauss.

Hz measures the frequency, and Gauss measures the intensity of the device.

The same research from above suggests that the most ideal intensity and frequency for therapeutic PEMF is 1-10 Gauss and 1-30 Hz.

If you’re looking for the best PEMF therapy based on the numbers, you should check out our Best PEMF Therapy Guide, which breaks down the specs between several different popular PEMF device brands.

Based off the PubMed findings, we’ve identified one standout brand that most closely aligns with the indicator numbers for ideal frequency and intensity.

That is the HealthyLine Platinum PEMF Mat’s variable 3 Gauss intensities and 1-25 Hz frequencies.

Plus, it offers several waveforms and customizable features.

We always recommend the due-diligence of a thorough brand comparative before making a PEMF purchase.

What Is Bemer Vasomotion Micro Circulation?

The term “vasomotion” is a staple in Bemer literature, reviews, marketing, and research.

What is vasomotion?

Also called angiokinesis, this is basically the facilitation of microcirculation within arteries and veins in the body.

Blood moves at a microscopic level toward the furthest portions of the body, such as the arms, hands, feet, and legs, before it returns for recirculating.

When blood supply is impaired or inhibited, the circulation of blood within those distant body parts suffers greatly and can lead to a number of pathologies.

Joint aches, muscle cramps, and other painful symptoms may arise when microcirculation is poor.

In theory, Bemer’s PEMF therapy is touted to raise core temperature and increase microscopic circulation to alleviate symptoms.

Bemer’s motto is that no one does microcirculation better than Bemer.

However, one of the PubMed studies clearly indicated that their research couldn’t support Bemer’s microcirculation claims. ( 1 )

In fact, the study found that Bemer’s PEMF setup was ineffective at improving/enhancing microcirculation in the feet.

Even worse, the Bemer pulsed low-dose magnetic field and pulsed high-dosed magnetic field actually resulted in decreased microcirculation and only a minuscule raise in foot temp.

Do note that you will need to pay for the above literature to fully view the findings, but it’s very easy to read between the lines of the free text that the configuration precisely identifies with Bemer’s product specs, which are 100uT at 30Hz.

This shouldn’t discourage you from PEMF, though.

If anything, it supports mainstream PEMF specs.

We found innumerable studies and literature reviews related to other PEMF specs (ie non-Bemer devices) that excelled at improved circulation, improved microcirculation, and positive temperature modification.

Of course, studies do exist to support Bemer’s claims.

One of the most notable was a study conducted by Bemer’s own inventor, Dr Klopp. (2)

It should be noted that this was obviously not an independent, third-party endeavor.

Does Bemer Have A NASA Agreement?

In looking around Bemer’s marketing materials and webpage, you’ll likely notice that Bemer links out to a connection between it and NASA.

It’s an interesting choice on Bemer’s part because the link offers more questions than answers. Why?

The reader is led to believe that there’s some official, highly creditable joint research project that has taken place between the two entities.

We can confirm that Bemer is listed as having some agreement with NASA as per NASA’s website info. (3)

We also know that Bemer paid over $10,000 for the collaboration.

However, what’s unclear is what that agreement entailed or if it ever came to fruition.

The agreement expired in March of 2020, but there’s no info to expand on any subject or outcome.

Combine the above with the sheer number of entities that are listed as NASA collaborators, and it takes the zip out of name-dropping NASA as a vetting source for consumer medical device products.

Has NASA Studied PEMF?

In a completely unrelated study, NASA has done a PEMF project.

It’s often referenced by PEMF brands as the “NASA PEMF Study.” (4)

This study is a landmark event for the entire field of PEMF therapy.

It was independently performed by NASA, and it found that PEMF at 10 Hz, 10-200 mGauss, and in square wave yielded extremely positive results.

You’ll find that almost every PEMF device on the market will reference this study as proof of their product’s efficiency and effectiveness.

Yet, if you look closely, you’ll also find that none of those products are actually providing a similar, much less precise, spec as the successful NASA study.

One of the rare mats to offer the exact same configuration from the NASA study is the Healthy Wave Multi-Wave Mat.

It’s actually offering the PEMF square and sine wave.

The Hz is 1-25, and the intensity adjusts up to 3 Gauss.

We looked for you, and this is the only mat we could locate that’s capable of recreating NASA’s successful configuration.

Bemer’s PEMF

The Classic Bemer mat offers PEMF as its only therapy.

As mentioned above, the therapy is defined by the manufacturer’s use of waveform, frequency, and intensity.

Let’s take a closer look at Bemer’s model for the three areas:

Waveform

This is often considered the most important aspect of any PEMF device.

Bemer’s waveform has been patented. It consists of a cascading sine wave pulsetrain waveform.

This waveform repeats at a rate of 33 times per second, and it reverses polarity every two minutes.

The B.Box controller operates the device.

Unfortunately, we couldn’t find a single study in the PubMed data on cascading sine wave pulse train PEMF models.

Bemer’s own internal studies are the only source of research.

With the conflict of interest, we feel that data should be taken with a grain of salt.

Again, the collective of independent PEMF research indicates that sine or square waves yield the most positive results at 1-10 Gauss and 1-30 Hz.

The polarity reversal factor is quite common amongst mainstream PEMF brands, and it’s considered effective by experts in the field.

Frequency

You have two frequency settings with a Bemer mat – 10Hz or 33 Hz.

In the latter mode, each of the 40 sine waves will gradually increase in amplitude and frequency.

In all, the user gets at least 1200 pulses per second.

In sleep mode, the device only runs at 10 Hz, which offers a longer, larger waveform.

Intensity

Bemer mats have an intensity range of 0.035 to 0.35 Gauss, which is 3.5 to 35 microTelsa.

The variation comes from the number of point applicators you plug into the controller.

So, with the Plus signal, you’re getting up to 150 microTelsa or up to 100 microTelsa from the Classic point applicators for either the B.Spot or B.Pad.

What Are The Most Effective PEMF Configurations?

In our research, we noticed that most brands do not reference the PubMed data.

It’s extensive. It’s comprehensive. It’s independent. Yet, it’s not being used. Why?

The PubMed research never concludes that any named brand or device is superior or inferior.

It also doesn’t recognize that one particular waveform is the “best.”

What is indicated, though, is that there is a ‘magic’ number range consistently yielding the most positive results.

That number is 1-10 Gauss and 1-30Hz, and the studies all used a regular sine wave.

So, we have to wonder if the lack of touting this data among PEMF brands is due to the fact that only the HealthyLine Platinum Mat matches up?

We will leave that conclusion up to you, the consumer.

Selecting Natural PEMF Configurations

One of the most common questions among PEMF investigators concerns the naturalness of the waveform, frequency, and intensity.

Let’s look at the facts of science.

The earth has a magnetic field that adheres to the Schumann Frequency, which is a fundamental resonance frequency of about 7.83Hz.

This low frequency means a larger waveform.

The earth’s frequency has a constantly changing waveform that resonates with its frequency.

Earth’s magnetic field is a low-intensity 30-60 microTesla, which would be 0.3-0.6 Gauss.

Now, move to the human body.

It, too, has an electromagnetic field.

Every single cell has an electromagnetic field ranging between 0-30 Hz… given that the cells are healthy.

With this knowledge, we can assert that the healthiest and most natural PEMF would closely align with the earth’s 7.83Hz Schumann Frequency, which corresponds to PubMed’s 0-30 Hz findings.

Likewise, you don’t need a high-intensity PEMF device.

In fact, studies show that higher intensities do not produce better results.

We see that the PubMed data of 1-10 Gauss aligns with the earth yet again.

Bemer’s Red Light Therapy Applicator

You’ll often see red light called “phototherapy.”

Bemer’s Pro model offer this in their B.Light applicator.

It’s a point applicator using red light therapy to deliver a completely separate therapy.

Do not confuse this feature as part of your PEMF therapy.

It only comes with the Pro purchase, and it’s not automated or integrated into the PEMF mat.

How Many Therapies Are Included In The Bemer Mat?

The Pro mat has both red light and PEMF, and the Classic is purely PEMF.

So, you’ll either get one or two therapies.

If you’ve utilized our other reviews, then you may have noticed that some mats have an array of therapies, including crystal therapy, far infrared therapy, and negative ions.

Bemer does not have an option to incorporate any supplemental therapies to their Pro nor Classic devices.

Instead of variety, Bemer focuses on the design of the controller.

It’s aesthetic is sleek and highly visual.

But, consumers should note that the Bemer controller isn’t a big difference in function when compared to other controllers.

So, ask yourself if you want to pay for the PEMF controller version of a luxury car’s custom paint, spoiler, and leather?

Does Far Infrared Technology Boost PEMF Value?

Yes. Research indicates that PEMF combined with far infrared therapy can maximize therapeutic benefits. Why?

PEMF is healing by its very nature.

It’s function is to raise cellular energy within therapeutic range to promote healing.

Far infrared technology steps in to maximize the efficiency of blood flow throughout the body to support that healing process.

Blood flow-richness also enables those benefits to be transported throughout the body for maximum impact.

Bemer doesn’t offer PEMF mats with far infrared therapy.

However, you can use our handy guide to compare other brands that do offer various therapy combinations.

Deciding Between Bemer Pro and Bemer Classic

Both Bemer models include all the basics to get started using Bemer Therapy.

In addition to the Pro and Classic devices, Bemer offers a few alternative applicators.

As mentioned above, aside from the interface, we failed to find major differences in the Pro verses Classic controllers.

The mat is a similar case.

The only mat difference is the Alcantara material being used for the Pro mat.

The material is touted to be more durable and better resistant against stains.

The biggest difference this Bemer mat review found between the two models is in price.

One of the biggest issues we noted among consumers is with Bemer’s pricing.

As you can see in our other PEMF reviews, Bemer is comparatively higher priced than competitive products offering similar therapies and specs. Why?

We attribute the inflated price to their MLM business model.

MLM is great for creating true brand ambassadors, and it’s one of the most budget friendly marketing models out there for businesses.

However, the downfall is within all the added tiers of the sales process.

In a nutshell, MLM has more hands in the pot and more mouths to feed from a single sale.

Everyone in above the end distributor gets paid a cut.

Therefore, the pot they’re splitting has to be larger, which means you, the end consumer, naturally pays more for the product.

This is why MLM products have a long history of pricing themselves out of the average consumer’s hands, and it likely explains why Bemer’s non-MLM competitors can beat their prices on PEMF mats.

If becoming a PEMF user and seller interests you, then Bemer may be the best voice for you.

It’s a solid company, and they’ve folded a lot of MLM product representatives into their brand over the last 20 plus years.

The pricing can go down if you look to used models; eBay and other listing e-commerce sites commonly have both used and new Bemer mats.

Be cautious to vet your vendor for knockoffs, and always pay close attention to the assurances these private vendors are willing to offer you.

One other option is to check with your local rehab facilities, gyms, and spas to see if they have a new or used Bemer PEMF product for sale.

Some larger facilities may even offer in-house financing options, or, at the very least, you’d know where you could try out a Bemer mat before making the large investment in purchasing one for your own private use.

Do Bemer Products Have Certification Markings?

Yes. The main two markings for Bemer are from the MDC and CE.

Official Bemer products will have an MDC marking.

This means that the product has been certified by the MDC, which is an independent medical review company.

MDC officials examine the device to assure the public that its either safe or unsafe for consumers to use.

Do keep in mind that MDC approvals aren’t non-profit. MDC charges a fee, which is paid by the applying product’s company, to review the product and issue an opinion.

Official Bemer products will also have a general CE (European Conformity) marking.

This indicates that the product falls within the EU’s directives for safe use by the general public.

Within this system, Bemer compiles with ISO 13485 standard of safety and quality for medical devices.

CE markings aren’t a suffice vetting standard, however.

The EU allows businesses to place this general CE mark on a product without it ever being actually tested in any way.

The product’s parent company self-assesses that the product falls within the regulatory guidelines. No safety checks required.

CE markings with a certification number are a more reliable vetting marking.

The CE will not issue the stamped number until the product is actually tested by the CE.

The assigned number within the marking signifies when the product was reviewed and tested.

Is There A Difference Between FDA Approval And FDA Registration?

Yes. Many consumers get FDA approval and FDA registration mixed up or think that it’s one in the same process. It’s not.

Bemer does not have any FDA approved products in their house.

Their PEMF mats are, however, FDA registered.

Bemer product’s are FDA registered as a class l medical device with 510(K) clearance.

This means that Bemer’s mat products fit into an existing pool of other devices that operate similarly and have the same function and purpose.

Since that product pool has already been deemed safe by the FDA, new products within the same vein are assumed to be safe, too.

The FDA can change the class or remove registration approval at any time as new information arises.

FDA approval, which Bemer does not have, means that the drug or device in question has undergone an extensive approval process that can cost thousands to millions of dollars.

Approved devices do not fit into an existing pool.

It’s a novel product that needs a new category, which means testing and more testing before it’s handed over to the public.

Bemer’s FDA clearance status indicates that their PEMF devices have PMN (pre-market notification) and have been cleared to be sold in America.

Class l is the least stringent of the three FDA classes, which means it requires little to no regulation by the FDA.

The 510(K) form shows that Bemer mats have joined the existing pool of “Powered Muscle Stimulator” products.

Does Bemer Have An FDA Import Issue?

Yes. In most cases, products that have a 501(K) do not have issues with the FDA when it comes to being imported into the U.S. from elsewhere.

The FDA keeps an updated listing of all medical devices that they’ve determined should be automatically detained upon arrival into the U.S. as an import.

Despite having a 501(K,) Bemer’s mats have found themselves on this FDA detainment list, which was updated no later than March 2020.

This indicates that Bemer was in some sort of violation or it appeared as such to the FDA.

Consumers can check this list at any time by going to the FDA’s Import Alert page. (5)

Bemer Mat Production And Distribution

Bemer Group’s products are manufactured in Liechtenstein, Switzerland.

The primary distribution method is MLM. You can find a distributor via their own website, or you can visit Bemer’s website to be connected with a distributor in your area or purchase direct from Bemer Group.

Anyone purchasing a mat can choose to become a MLM distributor.

Note that a surcharge will apply.

Independent MLM distributors stay connected to Bemer via a specialized login.

The distributor will get a commission off of any sales they make.

It’s a small commission because every distributor above the end distributor also gets a cut of the commission.

In other words, Sue buys from Meg and decides to become a distributor herself, and Sue then sells a Bemer mat to Jim, who also becomes a distributor.

When Jim makes a sale, he, Sue, and Meg all get a piece of the commission.

Of course, this can create long chains of multi-level distributors with dozens or more distributors splitting a commission.

It’s a great model for the distributor in that they can make very good profits from the cumulative of a long chain of distributors underneath them.

It’s also a great model for Bemer because it drastically reduces their in-house sales force and marketing team.

The loser of MLM is the consumer just interested in making a purchase.

As previously mentioned, it’s this vast MLM distribution network of middlemen that inflates Bemer mat’s pricing.

What You Need To Know About A Bemer Mat’s Warranty

At a minimum of several thousand dollars, a Bemer mat is considered a major purchase for most consumers.

As such, you’ll want to know about the warranty and return policy on the Bemer devices.

The full terms and conditions can be found on Bemer’s official website.

As with any product, we always recommend that consumers read carefully and completely.

If any doubt or question arises, then contact the vendor before you make a purchase.

Most registered Bemer products come with a three-year warranty when purchased through Bemer.

The B.Light and battery come with a six-month warranty. The mat itself is a simple design.

There’s not a lot to worry about when it comes to fabric and wire issues.

There is one major warranty catch for those that purchase through a distributor, however.

Purchases made directly from the Bemer Group’s website are automatically registered for the warranty.

However, MLM vendor purchases are not registered automatically.

The buyer must go to Bemer’s website on their own to register their product for the warranty.

In comparison, we’ve seen both worse and better warranties in the PEMF device niche.

Many companies skimp on the warranty for the controller because of its high cost.

Consumers may be distracted with lengthy warranties on other less expensive components, such as the mat.

So, it’s good to see that Bemer is giving the consumer an adequate warranty.

With that said, there are a couple of PEMF mats that beat Bemer’s controller and mat warranties.

The HealthyLine Platinum PEMF mat, for example, comes with a five-year warranty on the controller and a two-year warranty on the mat.

What You Need To Know About Bemer Mat’s Guarantee

Consumers have a 30-day, money back guarantee in both the Pro and Classic models.

The warranty has several conditions that must be met for the guarantee to be applicable, including:

  • You have 30 days to make the return request and provide a copy of the original invoice.
  • The product must also be shipped back in its original packaging and with all the accessories at your own cost.

However, there are four huge catches to the Bemer guarantee:

  1. The guarantee is for 90 percent of your money (not including shipping and handling) back since Bemer deducts a 10 percent “restocking” fee from your purchase price.
  1. The guarantee only applies to products purchased directly through the Bemer Group’s official website, which means that Bemer’s guarantee does not apply if you purchase through one of their MLM distributors.
  1. The item(s) can not be damaged in any way.
  1. Bemer’s MLM distributors, which are labeled as IBDs ( Independent Bemer Distributors,) do not qualify for a guarantee. Becoming an IBD anytime within 30 days of a purchase period voids the guarantee offering.

The above four points show just how important it is to read the fine print on all major purchases, including a Bemer mat.

Of course, independent vendors can choose to provide their own support, warranties, and guarantees separate from Bemer Group.

So, if you use a distributor, you’ll want to carefully read what they’re offering and determine if the vendor is trustworthy in making that offer.

Is PEMF Safe For Everyone?

At the bottom of the Bemer Group’s website, you’ll notice a statement saying that the info isn’t intended for diagnosis prevention, treatment, or cure of any medical issue and that consumers should always consult their physician before use.

We encourage all consumers to discuss any medical device from any brand with their primary health care physician before purchase.

While Bemer does not point out that research has found PEMF to be contraindicated within select groups, we would like to note that anyone who’s pregnant or who has an implanted medical device, such as a pacemaker, should never use PEMF therapy without consulting their primary care doctor for approval.

The scientific community generally concurs that PEMF therapy is recommended as a single 20-minute session per day.

While longer durations haven’t been found harmful to humans, longer treatments are also considered ineffective.

PEMFs maximum benefit is reached within 20 minutes.

I’m Ready To Buy A Bemer PEMF Device

A basic Google search for Bemer mat + distributor will offer you an array of choices.

Try adding a local search element for nearby distributors, such as Bemer mat + Houston, Texas.

In most cases, you’ll notice that a distributor’s website links back to a subpage checkout that’s actually part of Bemer’s official site.

Bemer also has their own search element on their website to find a nearby distributor, or you can purchase directly from the Bemer Group homepage.

Commerce sites, such as eBay and Amazon, also have Bemer distributors selling new and used mats and accessories.

Other sites, such as Craigslist, may offer Bemer mats, but you don’t get solid buyer protections with this avenue.

You may also want to search for local spas, gyms, wellness centers, or rehab centers that offer Bemer products to use or buy.

In the used realm, this enables you to use the B.Scan to check the mat’s functioning before purchase.

Fee-for-use offerings enable you to assess the Bemer mat’s offerings and design firsthand to see if it’s something you’d like to purchase.

No matter the vendor, remember to always check for buyer protections and that you’re comfortable with the associated warranty and guarantee through that particular vendor.

This is too big of a purchase to skip proper vetting, which is why we feel that your best route is to purchase directly from Bemer if you want the best guarantee and warranty protections.

Bemer Mat: Putting It All Together

In closing, we hope this Bemer mat review has answered all your questions.

PEMF is an amazing technology with a vast body of research supporting many possible health and wellness benefits.

But, it’s very clear that the configuration of a particular brand’s device has a huge impact on it meeting your expectations.

Bemer has a long and solid history in the PEMF niche as a trustworthy company.

Their products have several marks of approval for safety.

Their PEMF mats can also easily be located locally and online.

However, their buyer protections are complicated.

Their patented technology isn’t aligned with what independent data indicates are the ideal specs.

Plus, their MLM-inflated prices can be beat by competitors.
