PEMF Treatment Types and Benefits

What is PEMF Treatment

PEMF treatment can be used for a great variety of acute and chronic diseases.

It is not limited to one part of the body or organ, but it can treat the body as a whole.

This is because PEMF treatment affects our body’s cells, and aims to increase their charge (the amount of energy).

That way, it restores balance and proper function both to the cell and to the tissue and the organ of which that cell is a part.

Because of this, PEMF treatment basically has no limits.

We can use PEMFs to treat both physical and mental imbalances.

Below, you can read more about the various most common PEMF health benefits, as well as the types of devices that you can use to achieve these benefits for yourself, your family, or your pets.

PEMF Treatment Benefits

Improved Blood Circulation

This is one of the most important health benefits of PEMF treatment, and one of the basic principles on which PEMFs work.

PEMF treatment improves blood circulation by promoting certain chemicals in the blood which cause vasodilatation in a specific area of the body.

This way, blood can travel around the body faster and more efficiently, and bring more oxygen and nutrients to various parts of the body.

On top of that, vasodilatation means that the pressure that the blood exerts on the blood vessel walls is going to be lower, so PEMF treatment reduces blood pressure this way, as well.

Moreover, PEMF treatment restores proper charge to red blood cells.

When they are not properly charged, they start sticking to one another, creating clots and moving through blood vessels slowly.

When they are charged properly again, they repel one another, and blood circulation is improved. (1)

Pain Relief

The way modern medicine treats pain nowadays is not ideal.

It can be efficient, but in the long run, it may have devastating effects on the human body.

The way modern medicine treats pain is with painkillers that often cause serious side effects, and may be addictive, as well.

PEMF treatment presents a safe and effective alternative to this outdated approach.

We can use it to treat numerous types of pain, such as those caused by injuries, chronic diseases, surgeries, migraines, nerve damage, and so much more.

In 1993, a study was completed at the International Pain Research Institute which came to the conclusion that exposure to PEMFs results in serious pain relief. (2)

Improved Range of Motion

Cervical osteoarthritis is a debilitating disease that affects a lot of people, and has a huge effect on their quality of life.

One of the consequences of this disease that the patients experience is a decreased range of motion.

Modern medicine is unable to treat this disease effectively and return patients’ quality of life.

However, these patients can find relief in PEMF therapy.

A study on this issue was completed and published in Clinical Rheumatology.

It concluded that PEMF can increase range of motion in different parts of the body in patients suffering from cervical osteoarthritis. (3)

Arthritis

Another common disease nowadays for which medical professionals do not know the cause or have a cure is rheumatoid arthritis.

Inflammation and joint swelling are the most common symptoms from which patients of this disease suffer.

Unfortunately, it is very hard for them to find relief from modern medicine.

However, a study completed in 1998 shows that PEMF can successfully address the most common symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis.

Therefore, it provides new hope to patients experiencing this disease, and relieves the pain that they feel because of it. (4)

Migraines

Migraines are a stubborn health condition that can happen because of too much stress or other physiological problems.

Anyone who suffers from migraines knows how difficult it is to cope with them, and how big of an impact they can have on one’s general well-being.

But in 1999, a study was completed in the U.S. in which scientists tried to find out more about the effects PEMF treatment could have on migraines.

Fortunately for those suffering from migraines, the results were encouraging.

Another important finding to mention is that PEMF, unlike common migraine drugs, does not have any side effects.

It offers quick relief from the pain, and allows the patient to do what they need to in their lives. (5)

Stress

Stress is probably one of the most significant health problems that humanity is currently experiencing.

It has huge implications for our health, and its sources are everywhere.

Unfortunately, not many people are able to cope efficiently with stress, so many of us end up accumulating it until it wreaks havoc on us.

There are two types of stress, and two ways in which to cope with it.

Eustress is the normal stress that everyone experiences on a daily basis, and that our body can handle.

However, distress is the pathological amount of stress that is very harmful to our mind and body.

Moreover, we can cope with stress in an adaptive (healthy) and maladaptive (unhealthy) way.

PEMF treatment offers an efficient way of dealing with stress, as a study performed on rats showed.

The results were encouraging, as overall emotional behavior was improved, and they were better able to deal with stress and anxiety. (6)

Promotes Sleep

Our brains are susceptible and adaptive to different frequencies.

The way we think changes the frequencies in our brain.

Therefore, if we tend to overthink things and our brains are restless when we try to go to sleep, their frequency is going to increase, and we will have difficulty falling asleep and getting a good night’s sleep.

PEMF treatment uses different frequencies to achieve its benefits.

In order to improve sleeping patterns and sleep quality, we should use lower frequencies (up to 10 Hz).

This way, our brains will calm down, our cortisol levels will drop, and we will be able to fall asleep much more easily.

By doing this, we also bring our mind and body to be more in accord with the Earth and its magnetic field.

During the night, the Earth emits lower frequencies and, in the morning, it emits higher frequencies.

If our own frequencies are different from that, we will have trouble both waking up and falling asleep. (7)

Promotes Bone Healing

A non-union bone fracture is a fracture that does not heal in the time in which it was expected to heal.

As a consequence, in the majority of cases serious and dangerous surgeries are necessary in order to avoid medical complications.

However, PEMF treatment has proven to be a powerful, non-invasive way of treating non-union fractures.

It can accelerate their healing process and prevent harmful consequences.

A study completed in 1999 in Bangladesh proved this through PEMF treatment of 13 patients.

After three months, 11 patients out of 13 were healed, and their bones bonded together again. (8)

Improved Sports Performance and Recovery

During strenuous exercise, the muscles, tendons, ligaments, and cartilage in your body suffer a lot of stress.

As a consequence, micro-injuries occur in all of these tissues that sometimes over time progress into more serious injuries.

This is particularly true when we do not provide our body with proper rest, or when these micro-injuries occur in parts of the body that naturally have poor blood circulation.

PEMF treatment works to improve blood circulation in all of these tissues, especially tendons and ligaments which do not get a lot of blood.

By sending more blood into the affected parts of the body, they are able to heal much faster, and to recover from these micro-injuries.

This way, the period that is necessary for our body to repair itself after a high-intensity sports workout is reduced, and we can increase the frequency of our training sessions.

We can thus improve our sports performance, while at the same time prevent more serious injuries that are so common in sports and that usually mean weeks or months away from practice.

Types of PEMF Devices

There are two main factors that contribute to the versatility of PEMF treatment.

The first is the technology that PEMF devices use, and that can target different parts of the body and diseases and imbalances.

The other is that there is a great variety of PEMF devices.

Each one is developed with the purpose of making the healing process more efficient and more successful, so each one has its perfect application.

Here are some of the most common types of PEMF devices that you can find on the market.

Full Body Mat

A full body mat, as the name suggests, is a PEMF device that is intended to treat the whole body at the same time.

It is a mat that the patient lies on still and relaxes, as the pulsed electromagnetic fields warm his whole body.

Most often, full body mats have three pairs of coils.

One pair targets the head and neck, the second the torso and hips, and the third pair the legs and feet.

These three pairs of coils are not the same strength, though; it gradually decreases as you move toward the feet, as they can withstand higher field strength.

Pillow Pad

A pillow pad is a PEMF device that only contains one pair of coils.

It is substantially smaller than the full body mat, and it is used only to target specific body parts.

The pillow pad acts like a flashlight that will only illuminate a chosen spot on your body.

Some of its common uses are the treatment of lower back pain, liver issues, lung problems, digestive issues, muscles issues, etc.

Probe

The probe is a pencil-like PEMF device that is used to treat acupuncture meridians and focused spots.

It consists of a conical spread in the tip of the probe, so the strength of the field falls significantly as you move away from the source.

Therefore, it is important to keep it close to the affected part of the body.

This device is perfect for targeting very localized issues such as smaller joints, localized pain, acupuncture, digestive issues, and so on.

So, if you can point your finger to show where the problem is, you should use the probe.

PEMF Ring

A PEMF ring is a device that can help you alleviate problems in your joints, extremities, neck, head, and so on.

It can also help with stress and insomnia.

This type of device is not recommended for back problems because the pulses are strongest in the middle of the ring, so it is hard to target the back.

Clinical Grade PEMF Devices

Clinical grade PEMF devices are different because they are far more powerful than those devices intended for home use.

As the name suggests, they are often the choice that clinics make when they decide to provide a PEMF device for their patients.

The reason is that these devices can treat a much wider scope of diseases than smaller and less powerful devices.

An example of one of the most popular clinical grade PEMF devices is the PEMF 8000.

It has a maximum intensity range of 20,000 Gauss, and a frequency range of 1-100 Hz. Its pulse speed is around 100 nanoseconds.

The clinical grade PEMF devices can dig a lot deeper into the body, treating diseases that are located in spots that are hard to reach and that other PEMF devices cannot access easily.

PEMF Blanket

Since PEMF treatment is not intended only for humans, but for animals as well, there are devices that are intended for animal use.

One such is a PEMF blanket that is designed to be used with horses.

It is essentially a big blanket with coils running through it, and adjustable straps so that it can be fitted properly onto a horse.

It serves the purpose that the full body mat has for people, since it targets the whole body of the animal.
